The Global South—Russia, China, Iran, and ‘developing nations’ in Africa, Latin America, Asia (including the Middle East)—have chafed for decades at the hypocrisy and double-standards of ‘The Golden Billion’—North America, UK, Europe, NZ, and Australia—for touting the Rules-Based Order® while flouting it when it is convenient for the Golden Billion to do so. Cases in point, NATO-led war on Serbia, Iraq War, Syrian War, Yemen War, and Libyan War, while condemning and sanctioning Russia for the Ukraine War. Now comes Britain’s chipper old Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton to explain that Iran’s retaliation for Israel’s bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus was awful, awful, and wrong on multiple levels, but if a British diplomatic facility, had been bombed, Britain would, ‘Well, we would take very strong action.’ As the kids say, ‘what evs, David.’
This is an example of why countries have fled from the Golden Billion and developed individual and group partnerships; for example, BRICS+. More to the point, these are the types of words and deeds that strengthen the Iran-Russia relationship. While Cameron and his ilk were busy condemning Iran for exercising its rights under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Vladimir Putin said on a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, ‘what Iran did in response to Israel’s criminal act and in the shadow of the inaction of the UN Security Council was the best way to punish the aggressor and demonstrate the tact and rationality of the Iranian leadership.’
Russian soldiers, too, are expressing their solidarity with Iran; for instance, the photograph of the bomb (below), with the Russian and Iranian flags. The featured image (above), of the Iranian Lion and Russian Bear together, is viral online.

As long as the Golden Billion insist on shredding the post-1945 international order, countries will move away from the ‘collective west’ and form partnerships that will often be hostile to the ‘collective west.’ They only have themselves to blame.
