UK, France, and Germany, instigated by US and Israel, promoted an anti-Iran resolution before the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Commission (IAEA). The measure passed. This was a gift to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Another “L” (loss) and “own goal” by the Anglo-American foreign policy establishment.
Iranian Foreign Ministry vs. IRGC
In the tug o’ war between Iran’s foreign policy establishment and IRGC, the appeasement wing—Araghchi (FM), Pezeshkian (President), and Javad Zarif (architect of JCPOA), appeared to be defeating the “hardliners.” The appeasers made repeated offers to the “collective West” to re-negotiate JCPOA; and when IAEA chief, Rafael Grossi visited Iran, the appeasers agreed unilaterally to freeze Iran’s stockpile of 60% HEU (highly-enriched Uranium). However, IRGC, understands that agreements with the “collective West” are futile: agreements force restrictions on Iran with no discernible benefits, viz., as sanctions relief. The best proof of this is JCPOA, which delivered zero benefits to Iran despite Tehran’s compliance until Trump unilaterally withdrew from JCPOA in 2018.

The Gift
On Thursday, 21 November 2024, IAEA’s Board of Governors passed—19 in favor, 12 abstentions, 3 votes against, 1 non-vote—to censure Iran for the equivalent of two Loch Ness monster sightings. In response, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization activated 5,000 pre-installed advanced (IR-6) centrifuges that enrich Uranium-235 faster than earlier centrifuges, thereby adding to Iran’s considerable stockpile of 60% HEU. Moreover, the centrifuges will increase the speed of Iran’s short journey from 60% HEU to 90% HEU (“weapons-grade” fissile material).
The Anglo-American foreign policy establishment and its allies, France and Germany, “never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.” IRGC is doubtless happy. Next step for Iran? Quit NPT.
